Looking back or moving on?

I came across this quote from lessonsforlife.com: “The past is like using your rear-view mirror in the car, it’s good to see how far you’ve come, but if you stare too long you’ll miss what’s right in front of you.”

I’m sure that all of us have happy memories we love to recall. I recognise times in my life, though, when I’ve spent energy thinking and re-thinking past not-so-happy events and wishing things had been different. All this did was keep me stuck where I was. I’m learning the importance of quickly forgiving myself and others for mistakes made, past and present, so I can be free to move on. We can’t change the past but we can make the best of the future.
